    Description

    Vintage Oklahoma Tax Tokens
Brass, 5 Mills, Circa 1930s -- Lot of Three
Oklahoma, like eleven other states, issued sales tax tokens during the Great Depression. These tokens were used to pay the sales tax, or they were received by the buyer as change when the tax wasn't an even cent and they didn't have tokens available.
These tokens were issued by the State of Oklahoma starting in 1934, and they have since been demonetized . The numbers made, issued, redeemed and melted are unknown.
The manufacturer of the tokens isn't known. They are made of brass and are about 22mm in diameter. They have a hole in the middle that has a diameter of about 4mm. Around the hole are five concentric circles.
The obverse and reverse of these tokens are the same. There is no specific alignment of the reverse with respect to the obverse. One of these tokens is aligned so that if the coin is turned over around the vertical axis, the other side will be upright. That coin is slightly thicker than the other two.
The obverse and reverse have "Tax" above the circles around the central hole, and "Check" below the circles. By the upper perimeter, in an arc, is "Consumer's"; and by the lower perimeter, in an arc, is "Oklahoma". There are large numerals "5" to the left and right of the central circles and by the perimeter.
The tokens show the effects of use and age. There is a small amount of tarnishing and some scratches. Please see the photos.
