Some interesting history on Florence Kimball from the internet --
"On 18 January 1857, the sailing vessel Orissa, coming from Calcutta, India, to Boston with a cargo of hides, gunny cloth, linseed, and ginger, ran aground off Nauset Beach. For 37 years, the Orissa was under water; then in October 1894, it was cast up on the beach. As was the custom on Cape Cod, various parts of wreckage were salvaged; her galley was dragged up by the family whose home was in need of an extra room and became a back room of what is now called Galley West. On 1 August 1928, Florence Kimball purchased this patched together house for herself and her husband. They took note of the galley, and it then was named "Galley West." Florence Kimball, an energetic and capable woman, was skilled in various crafts. The money she made in selling craft objects supported the Kimballs in those early days. The Craft Shop became known for its fine hammered aluminum objects."
