Antique Great Depression-era sales tax tokens from the state Missouri, issued so that consumers would not be “overcharged” retail sales tax of a full penny on small purchases of 5 or 10 cents.
Lot of two (2).
Like most of these tokens issued by 12 state governments and elsewhere by private firms and municipalities, these are in denominations of 1 mill (or 1/10 of one cent).
Red plastic item reads “Missouri Sales Tax Token” surrounding a “1” inside a double circle on both sides.
It measures 13/16” in diameter and is 1/16” thick.
The silver metal item reads “Missouri Sales Tax Receipt” around the edges of both sides, which have in the center an outline of the state of Missouri and inside it, “1.”
It measures 7/8” in diameter and is approximately 1/32” thick.
Each weighs less than 1 g.
